Joseph City

Once a thriving tourist stop, Joseph City is now characterized by private residences. A must-stop roadside attraction is the iconic Jack Rabbit Trading Post, in operation since 1949, and owned by the same family since 1969. Famed for the large yellow billboards with a black jackrabbit that taunted Route 66 travelers back in the day with mileage countdowns, the trading post operates as a gift shop with Route 66 memorabilia, souvenirs, and novelties. The large yellow billboard with red letters proclaiming, ‘Here It Is!’ is the perfect photo op, as is the large fiberglass rabbit that you can sit on. Geronimo Trading Post, which has the world's largest petrified log, sells petrified wood for you to take home.
