A West-to-East Weekend on Route 66 in AZ

Nothing says adventure like an old-fashioned road trip. Hit the road on Friday afternoon to experience Arizona's stretch of Route 66 for the weekend and discover unique stops scattered along the renowned road. The only difference is that this time, you'll be traveling like a local! Feel free to Use this weekend itinerary to help plan your own road trip on Arizona's stretch of Mother Road. Arizona is home to the longest remaining unbroken stretch of Route 66, and its preservation is that of our history and our future. The neon signs, desert landscapes, and the one-of-a-kind funky businesses to support are some of the many reasons we love this historic highway.
Be sure to get a Route 66 of Arizona Passport before you go! There are 9 unique stamps to collect, and many wild card locations across Arizona. Collect 7 or more stamps to receive a certificate stating that you officially "Got your Kicks on Route 66!" Passports do not have to be completed in one trip and there is no expiration date.

Day One Kick-Off - Pools in Topock, donkeys in Oatman and don’t miss Kingman

Topock

Topock 66 is a must-do stop (one of your stamps!). Their pool and deck area gives you an amazing view of the Colorado River — better enjoyed with drinks, snacks and live music. And P.S. SPECIALS AFTER 4PM: $2 sliders, $1 tacos.

Oatman
This town attracts tourists from all over the world because of its furry residents, wild donkeys, friendly locals, and old west vibes! Grab an ice cream at the historic and haunted Oatman Hotel Restaurant & Saloon; be sure to check out their museum during your trip.

Cool Springs
If you are looking for something unique check out,  Shaffer Fish Bowl Springs is it. Look for the ‘fishbowl’ that locals keep stocked with goldfish year-round. Grab old fashion candies from the Cool Springs Station before continuing your Route 66 adventure.

Kingman
Start your trip with a drive up to the Hualapai Mountains for a hike in the park. If you want a challenging, shorter hike try Deer Canyon. If you’d like a longer day hike we suggest Potato Patch. Stop in the Hualapai Mountain Resort for a lunch in the mountains or a cold drink on their patio. Next, stop in the Powerhouse Visitor Center to shop all things Route 66 at our gift shop and tour the Arizona Route 66 Museum. Downtown Kingman is a great spot to find dinner at a local restaurant and grab some wine at Diana's Cellar Door or beer at one of the two breweries, Rickety Cricket and Black Bridge Brewery.  Check out Kingman's website to learn more about attractions and events in town.
