Sitting on the edge of the Colorado River, the city of Topock and its Golden Shores area started out as a settlement in 1883 when the Atlantic and Pacific railroad built a wooden bridge across the river. In 1916 the wooden bridge was replaced by the Trails Arch Bridge, which was featured in the movie The Grapes of Wrath and still stands today even though it stopped serving traffic in 1948.
