The Hackberry General Store packs a lot of character. Originally opened in 1934, it closed in the 1970s when bypassed by the Interstate. In 1992, the late Route 66 artist and cartographer Bob Waldmire reopened its doors and turned the former general store into a souvenir shop, selling quirky Mother Road memorabilia.
Today, the shop is a popular travel destination and is filled with artifacts from the 40s - 60s. Outside you'll find old gas pumps, vintage signs, and antique cars, including a 1929 Studebaker Rat Rod, which speaks of a bygone era of roadside travel.
